The Kojic Acid + Vitamin C Brightening Exfoliator is your multi-tasking solution for radiant, even-toned skin from head to toe. This luxurious, creamy formula combines the power of kojic acid, a naturally derived brightening agent with nourishing botanical oils and gentle physical exfoliants to buff away dullness and reveal your skin's natural glow.
Perfect for those dealing with uneven skin tone, post-blemish marks, sun damage, or simply wanting to maintain luminous skin, this exfoliator works double-duty on both face and body. The physical exfoliant (perlite) provides immediate smoothness, while kojic acid and vitamin C work beneath the surface to target pigmentation over time.
Enriched with organic jojoba oil and shea butter, this formula doesn't just exfoliate, it hydrates and protects your skin barrier, ensuring you're left with soft, supple skin rather than the tight, stripped feeling some exfoliators can cause.
The result? Brighter, smoother, more uniform skin that's prepped and primed for your serums, treatments, and moisturisers to work even more effectively.Whether you're preparing for a professional treatment, addressing body concerns like keratosis pilaris or uneven chest and back pigmentation, or simply elevating your weekly skincare ritual, this gentle yet effective exfoliator fits seamlessly into your routine.

Key Features
-
♾️ In a rinse-off product, kojic acid has limited contact time (1-3 minutes typically) compared to leave-on serums. However the mechanical exfoliation removes the stratum corneum barrier, allowing better penetration during the brief contact time. Regular use (2-3x weekly) provides cumulative brightening effects working synergistically with the physical exfoliation to reveal brighter skin layers beneath.
-
🌋 Perlite is amorphous volcanic glass that expands when heated, creating lightweight, spherical particles which provides consistent exfoliation without sharp edges and unlike plastic microbeads which are now banned in many countries are gentle enough for facial use while effective enough for body.
-
🍊 Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C Ester):Oil-soluble, stable form of vitamin C provides antioxidant protection during and after exfoliation (when skin is more vulnerable). It contributes to brightening effect synergistically with kojic acid.
-
🧴 Shea Butter + Jojoba Oil the organic butter and oil component is crucial preventing trans-epidermal water loss during mechanical exfoliation, providing slip for gentle buffing without friction damag and delivering fatty acids that support barrier repair.
-
👃 The aromatherapy aspect is carefully designed. Citrus (lemon oil, limonene): Uplifting, energizing; also has natural brightening properties. Mint (menthol, spearmint): Cooling, refreshing sensation; enhances "clean" feeling post-exfoliation. Woody (cedar, juniper, patchouli): Grounding, balancing; adds sophistication to prevent formula from smelling"too sweet"

How do I use the product?
For Face:
Cleanse skin and leave damp (do not dry
completely).
- Take a small amount (approximately 1
teaspoon) and warm between palms. - Using gentle pressure, massage onto face in small circular motions for 30-60 seconds, avoiding immediate eye area.
- Pay extra attention to areas with texture
concerns (nose, chin, forehead) or dark spots. - Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry.
- Follow immediately with serum and moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp.
For Body:
- In shower or bath, wet skin thoroughly.
- Apply a generous amount to areas of concern: elbows, knees, hands, chest, shoulders, back, or any area with rough texture or dark spots
- Massage in circular motions with moderate pressure for 1-2 minutes per area.
- For stubborn rough patches (heels, elbows),
you can use slightly more pressure. - Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Pat skin dry and apply body moisturiser
immediately.
Frequency: Use 2-3 times per week. Do not use daily,over-exfoliation can cause irritation.
CRITICAL: Always apply SPF 30+ the following day, especially to facial and exposed body areas, as kojic acid increases sun sensitivity.
Pro Tip: For maximum brightening on stubborn dark spots, leave the product on for 1-2 minutes before rinsing (like a mini
mask) to allow the kojic acid additional contact time.
Are there any contraindications to the product?
Do Not Use:
- On open wounds, cuts, or active acne
lesions - On sunburned or freshly burned skin
- Immediately after waxing, laser, or
professional peels (wait 7-14 days) - On active eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis
flare-ups - On skin with active rosacea inflammation
- During pregnancy/breastfeeding (due to
kojic acid content, defer to healthcare provider) - Around the immediate eye area
Use With Extreme Caution:
- On sensitive facial skin (reduce frequency
to 1x weekly max) - On skin currently using prescription
retinoids or acids (may cause excessive irritation) - On very thin, fragile skin (elderly
clients, areas with skin atrophy) - On areas with recent tattoo work (wait 4-6
weeks until fully healed)
Critical Sun Protection:
- Must use SPF 30+ on all treated areas for
at least 48 hours after use (longer is better) - Kojic acid + physical exfoliation =
significantly increased photosensitivity - Do NOT use within 24 hours before planned
sun exposure (beach, outdoor events) - Evening use recommended to allow overnight recovery before sun exposure
Frequency Warning:
- Maximum 3x per week, more frequent use can compromise barrier and cause irritation
- If using on face, may need to reduce body
exfoliation frequency or vice versa - Never use daily, over-exfoliation is
counter productive
CanI really use this on my face? Won't it be too harsh?
Absolutely, it’s specifically formulated to
be gentle enough for facial skin! The exfoliating particles are perlite, a volcanic mineral that's perfectly round and smooth, so it won't scratch or damage delicate facial skin like those harsh walnut or apricot scrubs. Think of it like tiny little massage balls rolling across your skin. Just use gentle
pressure and circular motions, let the scrub do the work.
How is this different from using a chemical exfoliant like an AHA serum?
Physical exfoliation (this scrub) immediately removes dead skin cells mechanically, you
feel smoother instantly. Chemical exfoliants work over time by dissolving the bonds between dead cells. Many people use both, this scrub 2-3x weekly for immediate smoothness and brightness, and a gentle chemical exfoliant on alternate days for ongoing cellular turnover. Just don't use them the same day, that’s too much exfoliation
I have sensitive skin, will this irritate me?
It depends on how sensitive you are. The
perlite exfoliant itself is very gentle, much more so than traditional scrubs,
and the shea butter base is nourishing. However, the kojic acid and essential
oils can potentially irritate very reactive skin. Start with a patch test on your jawline. If you tolerate it well, use only once weekly initially and see how your skin responds. Use the gentlest pressure possible, your skin should
never be red after rinsing.
Can I use this every day for faster results?
Please don't! Over-exfoliation is actually counterproductive, it compromises your skin barrier, causes irritation, and can make your skin look worse, not better. Your skin needs time to regenerate between exfoliation
sessions. 2-3x weekly is the sweet spot for results without damage. More isn't
better with exfoliation; consistency at the right frequency is what works.
Willthis help with the dark spots on my knees and elbows?
Yes, this is one of its best uses! Those
areas tend to darken from friction and dead skin build-up. The combination of physical exfoliation plus kojic acid brightening is perfect for these stubborn spots. Use 2-3x weekly with slightly more pressure than you'd use on your face (these areas can handle it). Be consistent, and you should see visible lightening in 6-8 weeks. Don't forget SPF on exposed elbows!
When should I use this, morning or night?
Evening is ideal. This gives your skin
overnight to recover before sun exposure, which is especially important since the kojic acid increases photosensitivity. Plus, you'll want to follow with richer treatment products and moisturisers that work best overnight. That said, if you prefer morning showers, you can use it in the AM, just be religious
about applying SPF afterward.
Can I use this before self-tanner?
This is actually THE perfect prep for self-tanner! Use it 24 hours before you plan
to apply your self-tanner (not the same day, give your skin time to calm). It removes all the dead skin cells and rough patches that cause self-tanner to go on unevenly or look patchy. Focus extra on elbows, knees, and ankles. Your tan will go on smoother and last longer, professional spray tan artists actually
recommend exfoliating exactly like this beforehand.
I wax regularly, when can I use this in relation to my waxing appointments?
Timing matters here! Use this scrub
regularly BEFORE your waxing appointment (even the morning of is fine, just 3-4 hours before). This helps prevent ingrown hairs by clearing away dead skin cells that could trap hairs. However, do NOT use it immediately after waxing, wait 48-72 hours for your skin to heal first. Then resume 2-3x weekly to prevent ingrowns from developing.
My arms have those bumps (keratosis pilaris), willt his help?
Yes! This is excellent for KP. The physical
exfoliation helps clear away the keratin plugs causing the bumps, while regular use prevents new ones from forming. Use 2x weekly on the affected areas, and
always follow with a rich moisturizer (ideally one containing urea or lactic acid for even better KP management). You should see significant improvement in 4-6 weeks, but KP requires ongoing maintenance, it’s not a "cure," but this definitely helps manage it.
Can I use this if I'm using retinol or tretinoin?
You can, but you need to be strategic about timing. Never use this scrub on the same day as your retinoid, that’s too much exfoliation and will cause significant irritation. Instead, alternate: use your retinoid on some nights and this scrub on others. For example: retinoid Monday/Wednesday/Friday, scrub Tuesday/Saturday. Listen to your skin, if it feels irritated or overly sensitive, space them out more or reduce the scrub frequency to just once weekly.
Will this help fade acne scars on my back?
Post-acne hyperpigmentation (those dark marks left after breakouts) responds really well to the combination of exfoliation and kojic acid. Have someone help you apply it to your back 2-3x weekly, or use one of those long-handled back applicators. Be patient, back skin is thicker so it can take 8-12 weeks to see significant fading, but it definitely works. Consider pairing this with a professional back facial for accelerated results.
I notice a cooling sensation, is that normal?
Yes, that's the menthol from the mint
essential oils! It creates that refreshing, invigorating tingle that makes the experience feel spa-like. It should feel pleasant and cooling, not burning or painful. If you experience any burning, stinging, or discomfort, rinse immediately and discontinue use, that would indicate sensitivity or irritation.
Can I use this while pregnant?
We recommend avoiding this during pregnancy due to the kojic acid content. While topical use is generally considered lower risk than oral kojic acid, there isn't enough comprehensive safety data during pregnancy. Focus on gentle physical exfoliants without brightening actives during pregnancy, and save this product for after you've delivered and finished breastfeeding.
